“Let’s get ready to rumble!”

Michael Buffer’s famous catchphrase is often used to the crowd ready prior to a boxing match, but we felt it appropriate to borrow the term to describe tonight’s bout at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY between President Barack Obama and former Governor Mitt Romney, their second of three debates leading up to Election Day.

Tonight’s debate has a lot riding on it for both candidates. For President Obama, it allows him a chance to avenge his poor performance from the first debate (according to people from both parties) and build upon the slim lead he has over Romney according to a Reuters poll released earlier today (Obama 46%, Romney 43%). For Governor Romney, it allows him another opportunity to speak to a large audience of undecided voters and state his case why he would be the best candidate to lead the country for the next four years.

Adding to the intrigue tonight is that the format for the debate is a town hall style. The two men will be answering questions posed by audience members and providing their contrasting views in their replies. CNN’s Candy Crowley will be moderating the talk and trying to keep things on time and on topic. Tune in at 9:00 eastern time on any of the four broadcast networks, as well as CNN or Fox News, to catch the action.

It should be an interesting evening. Will one of the men land a deflating blow, or will they just trade jabs back and forth all evening? We’ll see.
